Pedestal Sump Pump

Definition

A mechanical device that stands on a supportive base and is used to remove water from wet areas, such as basements and crawlspaces, in order to help prevent flooding.

Things you need to know

Pedestal sump pumps work best in areas with a narrow or shallow sump pit. They have a longer lifespan and are easier to repair than submersible sump pumps. They are, however, louder, and not as effective at removing solids.

Also known as

Upright Sump Pump, Column Sump Pump

Cost Considerations

Pedestal sump pumps are more economical than submersible sump pumps. The average cost of installing a new sump pump is $550 to $1,100.
